魚眼レンズの購入は19歳でカメラを始めてから初めてである。カメラを始めたころのニコンは、魚眼レンズで他のメーカーを圧倒していた。しかし、そのころからこのレンズを買う数日前までは、ほとんど関心がなかった。買うきっかけは、円周魚眼と対角線魚眼をズームでカバーできることと、180度の視野を捉えることができることだ。
魚眼レンズで得た画像が、人間の目で見たままの画像に近いと思っているからだ。横に細長い長方形を見たとき、脳では中央と両端が同じ高さと認識しているが、実際には両端が狭く見えている。

ガラスケースの中にあるジオラマを広角レンズで目いっぱい近寄って撮ると本物のように撮ることができた。
